Mission Statement
The Centre’s mandate is to provide restorative justice facilitation services for youth and adults across Alberta, benefiting victims of crime and addressing the root causes of offending to prevent recidivism.
We receive referrals from crown prosecutors, police, and, if resources allow, from community agencies and self-referrals.
The Centre has access to a network of culturally diverse trauma-informed RJ practitioners with extensive experience working with formal authorities (criminal justice system, child and family services, education, victim services), who are committed to addressing the overrepresentation of Indigenous people. We also provide services to Black and Racialized Youth.
The Centre provides culturally relevant services to address the gap areas in Alberta. For example, if a local program is unable to handle serious, complex cases, or if there is a conflict of interest or practitioner safety issue, and upon request, co-facilitate with a community RJ program for co-mentorship and to share the workload.
Core Values
Respect for Indigenous Ways of Knowing offers a Common Future for Humanity (UNDRIP, 2007): honouring traditional values and practices to guide a restorative justice process ensures cultural safety, thereby achieving the desired outcomes.

Collaboration and Partnership: Work collaboratively in a spirit of true partnership with formal referral authorities (police, crown prosecutors, justices, attorneys, social workers, community agencies) to facilitate a restorative process attentive to the needs of the person harmed and the person responsible.

Safety and Empowerment: Ensure everyone feels heard, safe, respected, and has a voice in repairing the harm to restore peace (within and with others).

Human-Centric-Relational Approach: to achieve desired outcomes.
